Welding, cutting and brazing are jobs that can cause permanent personal injury.   UV radiation is generated by the welder’s electrical “arc.”   Skin exposure to the radiation can result in serious burns, and excessive exposure can cause permanent damage to the eyes.  Exposure to the “intense visible light” produced by the welder’s arc and other flame cutting equipment may also permanently damage the eyes, causing shading, papillary reflex and other serious eye injuries.

Logging is one of the most dangerous occupations in the U.S.  In addition to handling dangerous equipment such as logging machines and chain saws, loggers often have to work in unstable or rough terrain, electrical storms, wind, and extreme temperatures.  The equipment is heavy, and the environment is full of potentially dangerous situations such as falling trees, rolling logs, and unexpected slides.  Injury can happen at the site of the harvest, during transportation, or at the saw mills or pulp mills.
