Pistachios Recalled Over Salmonella Fears

Pistachios sold under Wonderful, Paramount Farms, and Trader Joe’s brands are being recalled due to potential salmonella contamination. Health officials across nine states have investigated 11 individual cases of salmonella linked to pistachios originally from Lost Hills, California. The nuts have been sold nation-wide, as well as in parts of Canada.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention only two individuals have been hospitalized due to contaminated nuts, with no deaths reported. Recalled nuts can be identified by a lot code on the rear or back bottom panel of the package. The code list is available at the CDC website.

Wonderful pistachios commented on the potential contamination, stating that they take food safety seriously, and are working with health officials to identify the source of the problem. The company added that this was its first recall in almost 30 years of growth, and is using the incident to begin more extensive sampling and testing in its food safety program.

If you’ve purchased pistachios from the brands listed above, the CDC asks that you consult their website for further information immediately, and are encouraged to return them to the store of purchase for a full refund.
