COMMERCIAL CONSTRUCTION INJURY

The construction industry employs about 6% of the country’s workforce, but is responsible for 20% of all workplace fatalities – the largest percentage for any workplace sector.

The most frequent cause of injury or death on commercial construction sites are falls, transportation incidents, injurious contact with equipment, and exposure to harmful substances – such as asbestos or solvents. Loud noise on the worksite can lead to deafness or hearing loss.

Our client (above) enjoys a moment with his grandchild, prior to the deadly construction accident that crushed him.

Improperly secured scaffolding, electrocution, defective design (of cranes or scaffolding, as examples), improper or defective ventilation, big-machines such as forklifts, all can cause catastrophic injury or death.  Nail guns, conveyors, corrugators, logging machines – all must be without defect and operated responsibly.  Non-workers are often allowed onto worksites – and can be injured.

Construction has increasingly become deadly and dangerous.

D’Amore Law Group represented the family of a construction worker killed on a large construction site in Portland.  A track-mounted drill rig pivoted, crushing the victim’s head between the counterweight of the drill rig and a concrete wall.  The case was confidentially resolved by attorney Tom D’Amore.

In another case, a worker was asphyxiated on the job site, in the tank of a transport-tanker truck.  An investigation revealed that the tanker had been washed-out with nitrogen, leaving the tank virtually void of oxygen.  Proper notification of use of the deadly substance could have prevented our client’s death.
