SPINAL CORD INJURY & BRAIN INJURY
Only about 18 inches long, the spinal cord extends from the base of the brain, down along the middle of the back, to the mid-section (about) of the body.
Damage to the spinal cord as a result of an injury can be permanently debilitating.
Around 40 percent of spinal cord and brain injuries are caused by auto, truck or motorcycle accidents including SUV rollovers or accidents involving off-road vehicles. Brain injuries often occur in car or truck accidents when the head hits the windshield.
Snowmobile accidents can impart terrible injuries, as can football or other sport injuries. Falls – or violence – can be the cause of spinal cord injuries. Males between the ages of 15 and 35 are most often victims of spinal cord damage.
Spinal cord injury can also happen on construction or job sites.
One of our clients was paralyzed while working at a construction site when drywall that had been improperly stacked fell on him, knocking him through a temporary guard rail. He fell headfirst onto the floor below. Unable to move from the neck down, he will spend the rest of his life in a wheelchair.
