TRUCK ACCIDENTS
Large trucks are more likely to be involved in a fatal multi-vehicle crash than are passenger vehicles. Weighing some 80,000 pounds, and measuring up to 75 feet in length, tangling with a big-rig in a passenger vehicle, on a bike or as a pedestrian, can be catastrophic.
About a third of all large truck drivers involved in fatal truck accidents had at least one prior speeding conviction compared to 19 percent of passenger vehicle drivers involved in fatal vehicle accidents.
There are strict rules and regulations that commercial vehicles must follow. The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) lays out the safe and correct way for commercial vehicles to be loaded, maintained and driven. Trucks involved in accidents are often in violation of one or more of these regulations and are not fulfilling their duties as responsible drivers.
One D’Amore Law Group client was killed when he was rear-ended by an 18-wheeler. The man’s car was pushed off the road into a ditch and burst into flames. Investigation done by D’Amore Law Group discovered that the truck driver had illegal drugs in his system at the time of the accident, and had falsified log reports. D'Amore Law Group negotiated a $2 million settlement on behalf of the victim's widow.
